It is not often that you get great actors, solid dialogue, and real drama from a horror movie but "come to daddy" managed to bring all this and more. Elija Wood was amazing. This film has some violent scenes and uses harsh language so I would not take your parents to see this. I saw this in Alamo Movie Theater in a sold out theater and everyone enjoyed it.

The informer movie 2020. This was a great zombie flick. A different concept from all of the other undead movies. Two 👍👍 up. But moving around in prison is too easy, as is the escape and all the subsequent events. You can't fault the actors for working with what they are given, but it falls flat as a movie because of the lack of realism. Plus marks for not relying on fancy effects or gruesome violence, but really can't give it more than a 5 for where it goes after a strong beginning and all the elements for a really good thriller. Either commit to strong script or B grade John Wick style, don't turn this into lifetime for criminals.

The story of two Brazilian sisters separated by a twist of fate in a country infested with sexist attitudes is one of the finest Brazilian melodramas ever made - from the BFI London and the Cambridge Film Festival T his is as close as you will ever get to a tropical Douglas Sirk. Karim Ainouz’s eighth feature film and the second one to premiere in Cannes (after Madame Sata in 2001) has all the ingredients of a melodrama. The 145-minute movie – based on the eponymous novel by Martha Batalha – is punctuated with tragic relationships, epic misfortunes, fortuitous separations and untimely deaths. All skilfully wrapped together by an entirely instrumental and magnificent music score. The titular character (Carol Duarte) and her sister Guida Gusmao (Julia Stockler) live with their traditional parents. Their Portuguese father Antonio is rude and formidable, while their Brazilian mother Ana is quiet and passive. The action takes place in the charming and quaint Rio the Janeiro of the 1950s. One day Guida elopes with her Greek boyfriend Yorgos, leaving behind a letter explaining that she loves her family and intends to return a married woman. Instead, she returns single and pregnant, after Yorgos turned out to be “a scoundrel”. Her father does not accept her back into the house because he feels “ashamed”. The submissive mother simply abides by her husband’s decision. “My mother lives in the shadow of her husband”, Guida later clarifies. The problem is that by the time Guida returns, Euridice has already married a man called Antenor (Gregorio Duvivier) and no longer lives with her parents. Antonio lies to Guida. As a result, Euridice thinks that Guida is in Greece, while Guida thinks that Euridice is in Austria. In reality, both sisters still live in Rio not far from each other. This is not the first time that Karim Ainouz addresses the desire to traverse the Atlantic, moving from Brazil to Europe. The Brazilian director himself crossed the pond many years ago, having migrated from Brazil to Berlin (where he’s now based). Guida constantly writes to her sister in Austria. Euridice never responds because she is neither in Austria nor aware of the existence of such letters. Guida continues to write anyway in order to keep the memory of her sister alive. These letters eventually become some sort of diary. Their content revs the engine of the narrative. The plot is multi-threaded and complex. It could’ve easily become jumbled up. But not in the skilled hands of Ainouz. The film never gets tedious. Every detail is gingerly handmade. This in an immaculate endeavour of love. A masterpiece. Guida and Euridice get pregnant in the same year. Neither one wants to keep their baby. Guida regrets her pregnancy because of the disappointment with Yorgos. Euridice mulls an abortion because she wishes to travel to Vienna in order to fulfil her career dream. Both women give birth to a healthy child against their will. Guida finds solace and shelter amongst the black and impoverished communities of suburban Rio. This is a sobering reminder of the sharp racial divide that still defines Brazil. She moves into a shack with an older Black woman called Filomena, who becomes a maternal figure. This is a film about women forced to make decisions against their will. About the subtle and also the not-so-subtle ways men oppress women. Antonio is a rabid misogynist. Antenor isn’t as overtly sexist, yet he cannot disguise his anger when Euridice wins a piano competition. Both men oppress Euridice in very different yet equally efficient ways. The cinematography is spectacular. Rio de Janeiro is verdant and plush. The skies are lustrous. The interiors are vibrant, with radiant yellow, green and blue walls. The textures are rough and exquisite. Mirrors are used auspiciously and in abundance. The 1950s’ costumes and mise-en-scene are impeccable. The sexual frankness of the movie also deserves credit. Euridice’s awkward nuptial night (when she loses her virginity) is both funny and cringeworthy. The young female is entirely alien to sex. She has never seen a penis is her life. She bursts out laughing when Antenor pulls his pants down, revealing an enormous erect phallus. Her contorted facial expressions during coitus are unforgettable. Eighty-nine-year-old Brazilian über -actress Fernanda Montenegro (the only person ever to receive an Oscar nomination for a Portuguese-speaking role) plays Euridice at old age, in the last 15 minutes of the film. She has two adult children and several grandchildren. But what happened to Guida? Did the two sisters ever meet again? What about the letters? Were they thrown away? Or did they eventually reach their intended consignee? I can’t answer these questions without spoiling the film for you. You will have to watch it and find out yourselves. The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmao showed in the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival, as part of the Certain Regard section, when this review was originally written. It won the Best Film award of said section, a brand new achievement for Brazilian cinema. It received a rapturous standing ovation, and teary faces could be seen everywhere. In a speech in French immediately prior to the screening, the Brazilian director dedicated his movie to Brazilian women, the face of resistance in a country increasingly intolerant (in a indirect reference to the country’s ultra-racist, homophobic and misogynistic president Jair Bolsonaro). The film premieres in the UK in October, as part of the BFI London and the Cambridge Film Festival.

With a running time of 2h20min the pace is rather slow and the story takes its time to get going. Where the film succeeds is the atmosphere of the 40s Rio, with its walkways, restaurants, and its diminishing Portuguese middle class that can easily slip into extreme hardship and poverty.
Independent director Karim Ainouz is a Cannes darling but has never quite made it into the big league. This feels like a passion project for him and his love for Rio is obvious in every shot. Definitely not for everyone THE INVISIBLE LIFE is rich in emotion and atmosphere. Watch out for a small role from Brazilian acting royalty Fernando Montenegro. Her emotional gut wrenching cameo could be just the reason to see this overlong family saga.

En route, the box with the remains breaks open and an ooze leaks out, infecting the TARDIS. The Doctor is forced to make an emergency materialisation in San Francisco's Chinatown on 30 December 1999. As he exits and locks the TARDIS, the Doctor is shot by a gang chasing down Chang Lee, a young Chinese-American man. Lee calls for an ambulance and escorts the unconscious Doctor to a hospital, unaware the ooze from the TARDIS has gotten aboard the ambulance. At the hospital, after the bullets are removed, cardiologist Dr Grace Holloway attempts surgery to stabilise his unusual heartbeat, but is confused by his strange double-heart anatomy, and accidentally lodges a cardiac probe in the Doctor's body, apparently killing him. The Doctor's body is taken to the morgue, while Lee steals the Doctor's possessions, including the TARDIS key. Meanwhile, the ooze takes over the body of the ambulance driver, Bruce, transforming him into a new body for the Master. Later, the Doctor's body regenerates, and the new Doctor, suffering amnesia, gathers clothes from an upcoming fancy dress party. He recognises Holloway, who has resigned from the hospital after the failed operation, and follows her to her car, proving to her he is the same man by pulling out the cardiac probe. Holloway takes him home to recover. Lee returns to the TARDIS where the Master arrives and puts him under his mind control by claiming the Doctor had stolen his body. The Master convinces Lee to open the TARDIS and then to open the Eye of Harmony within it, which requires a human retinal scan. When the Eye opens, the Doctor is flooded with memories and realises the Master is searching for him, and tries to block the scan. He warns Holloway that while the Eye is opened, the fabric of reality will weaken, and potentially destroy the Earth by midnight on New Year's Eve if they cannot close it. However, he needs an atomic clock to do so, and Holloway finds one on display at the San Francisco Institute of Technological Advancement and Research. Outside, they find the ambulance with the Master and Lee waiting for them, offering them a ride. The Doctor does not immediately recognise the Master, but discovers his true identity en route, and he and Holloway escape, but not before the Master can spit an ooze-like substance on Holloway's wrist. The two continue to the Institute and obtain the clock, returning to the TARDIS. The Doctor installs the clock and successfully closes the Eye, but finds the damage to reality too great and that he must revert time before the Eye was opened to prevent the destruction of Earth. As he connects the proper TARDIS circuits to do this, the Master remotely takes control of Holloway's body, causing her eyes to become inhuman, and she strikes the Doctor unconscious. The Doctor and the Master in their climactic battle The Doctor wakes to find himself chained above the Eye, the Master poised to take his remaining regenerations while Lee and Holloway watch. The Doctor is able to break the Master's control on Lee, and Lee refuses to open the Eye for the Master. The Master kills him, and then releases his control on Holloway to return her eyes to normal. He forces her to open the Eye and then begins drawing the Doctor's lifeforce. Holloway, under her own control, is able to complete the final circuits to put the TARDIS into a time-holding pattern, preventing Earth's destruction, and then goes to free the Doctor. Production [ edit] Pre-production [ edit] Producer Philip Segal had been trying for some years to launch a new American-produced series of Doctor Who, but the Fox Network — the only American network that showed any interest — was only prepared to commit to a single telemovie. It was hoped that, would the telemovie be successful, Fox might be persuaded to reconsider a series; however, the telemovie's ratings performance in America was not strong enough to hold Fox's interest. The production budget for the movie (as revealed in the book Doctor Who: Regeneration) was US$5 million, with the Fox Network spending $2. 5 million, BBC Television contributing $300, 000, and the remaining $2. 2 million split between BBC Worldwide and Universal Television. Casting [ edit] The producers of the television movie compiled several lists of actors to consider for the part of the Doctor. Among early thoughts were Michael Crawford, Tim Curry, Eric Idle, Billy Connolly, Trevor Eve, Michael Palin, Robert Lindsay, and Jonathan Pryce. [ citation needed] All were uninterested in the project, or unavailable for the intended filming dates. [ citation needed] Casting sessions took place in March 1994; actors who actually auditioned for the role include Liam Cunningham, Mark McGann, Robert Lindsay, Tim McInnerny, Nathaniel Parker, Peter Woodward, John Sessions, Anthony Head, and Tony Slattery. The movie was filmed on 35mm film in Vancouver, British Columbia, the first time any Doctor Who story had been filmed in North America. The sonic screwdriver was blurred in post-production to conceal the error. Post-production [ edit] The opening pre-credits sequence went through a number of modifications, with several different voice-overs recorded. At one stage the voice-over was to be made by the old Master, played by Gordon Tipple; in the end this was not used. Tipple is still credited as "The Old Master", though in the final edit his appearance is very brief, stationary, and mute. Had the original pre-titles voice-over been used, it would have been unclear what incarnation of the Doctor Sylvester McCoy portrays in the movie (as he is simply credited as "The Old Doctor"). Only the rewritten narration (as read by Paul McGann) makes his number of regenerations clear. The sequence of the TARDIS flying through the time vortex was briefly reused in the opening of Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, as the Master observes Rowan Atkinson 's Doctor. Instead of designing a new Doctor Who logo for this film, it was decided instead to use a modified version of the logo that was used for the Jon Pertwee era of the original series (with the exception of the final season). This logo, being the last logo used on an "official" Doctor Who broadcast before the 2005 revival, was, until 2018, used by the BBC for most Doctor Who merchandise relating to the first eight Doctors. In 2018, efforts were made to make the show's merchandise more uniform, and so most items of merchandise began to use the logo designed for Jodie Whittaker's time as the Doctor, abandoning the "Movie" logo for the first time in 22 years. John Debney was commissioned to write the score for this film, and intended to replace Ron Grainer 's original theme with a new composition. Ultimately Debney did in fact use an arrangement of Grainer's music for the theme, although Grainer goes uncredited. Segal suggested the unofficial title Enemy Within as an alternative at Manopticon 5, apparently after being repeatedly asked what the actual title for the movie was [ citation needed]. Both DVD releases are labelled Doctor Who: The Movie. The VHS release contains both the name Doctor Who and the phrase, The Sensational Feature Length Film (plausibly read as a subtitle). The most common fan usage appears to refer to it as "The Television Movie" or "TVM", or variations thereof. Upon translation into French, this film was renamed Le Seigneur du Temps (literal translation: "The Lord of Time"). "TVM" is the production code used in the BBC's online episode guide. Broadcast and reception [ edit] The movie debuted on the Edmonton, Alberta CITV-TV station on 12 May, two days prior to its Fox Network broadcast. Commercials on the Fox network advertising the film used special effects footage from the 1986 story The Trial of a Time Lord, although this footage was not used in the movie. This marked the first time that footage from the original BBC series had been shown on a major American network. The advertisements also used a different arrangement of the Doctor Who theme music from that heard in the film. The movie received disappointing US ratings. It received 5. 6 million viewers, a total 9% share of the audience. The scenes where Chang Lee's friends are fired upon was cut because of the BBC's sensitivity about gun violence following the Dunblane massacre three months before. It was the first novelisation of a televised Doctor Who story to not be published by Target Books (or related companies) since Doctor Who and the Crusaders in 1966. Basing the adaptation on an early draft of the script, Russell adjusted some details to make it more consistent with the original series, and the novelisation also contains elements that were cut from the shooting script for timing reasons. The novel begins with the Seventh Doctor receiving a telepathic summons from the Master (similar to The Deadly Assassin) to collect his remains from Skaro and a short prologue detailing how the Doctor escapes from the planet with the casket. When the Doctor first kisses Grace, he immediately pulls back, grins apologetically and murmurs, "I'm sorry, don't know what came over me there. " This makes the romantic nature of the kiss more ambiguous. Instead of the second kiss at the end, he gives her the Seventh Doctor's straw hat as a memento. The Doctor is still referred to as half-human, to which the Master comments, "The Doctor once claimed to be more than just a Time Lord — He should really have said less than a Time Lord! " This was a reference to a line cut from Remembrance of the Daleks. Instead of dying and being brought back to life, Grace and Lee are merely rendered unconscious, though aware of what is happening around them. Previous incarnations of this programme go back 45 years, so the pedigree is well established, and it has always had a loyal fan base, despite serious failings of script on occasion (especially in the later years) and lack of budget for adequate sets, costumes, etc. But this series (I've seen seasons 1 – 3) is spectacularly better. It scores in several major areas. First – the scripts are very well written, and each episode is ingeniously different. Very gripping and well-crafted stories, plenty of new villains and monsters, some good cliff-hangers, and several well-remembered past entities (Daleks and Cybermen pop up more than once. Second – the sets, costumes and SFX are of course much more realistic. Computer Graphics seem to have been used to great effect, and these are time-consuming and expensive. Obviously a larger budget was made available than previously and the latest technology seems to have been put to good use in the hands of dedicated 'techies' There is also much more location filming. Third – the essential, rather passive, female 'assistant' to the Doctor is now no longer an assistant. Rather, she is an integral part of the stories, a companion who has her own opinions, motivations and style, and is very much part of the adventures, as is her mother and her boyfriend in the first two seasons! Of course the Doctor changes,and the companion likewise,from time to time (if you'll pardon the pun! but the formula remains and works. However the relationship between the Doctor and his companion is explored more deeply than before. Also there are some special guest appearances - watch out for Derek Jacobi in season 3, for example. It does retain many of the traditional 'Doctor Who' values. Plenty of deaths but no blood and gore. Plenty of action and fighting, but no heavy swearing. Some fairly scary moments, but nothing you would want to shield the kids from, unless you're really paranoid! – and kids love being frightened anyway. It is a measure of its success that the main characters are taken to your heart such that you really care what happens to them. Towards the end of the second season the angst level does get higher, and some might argue that it gets a little too 'serious. There are some very sad moments, but by and large, it's just great fun – for children from 10 to a 110. There's some fine acting by all involved, even the music is first rate, the new orchestration of the time-honoured, never-to-be changed, main theme tune is stunning) and the enterprise deserves every accolade you might throw at it. Slight disparity between the critics and honest people I see

It is obvious to me that the Doctor claiming social awkwardness is the writer's way of getting themselves out of a corner they painted themselves into. They put themselves into a position that required excellent writing to achieve the results they wanted. But when they were unable to actually attain those results, they resorted to an attempt at cheap humor to get out of it. Think about the times when Matt Smith became all serious and insightful, and think about how powerful those moments were BECAUSE OF how socially awkward he normally was.

It's a continuation of the show that was from 1963–1989 with a TV movie in 1996. It's about an alien known as a Time Lord and calls himself the Doctor who can travel through time and space. He usually travels with a companion. He regenerates which makes the show go on when the actor who plays the Doctor decides that they would like to change directions in their acting careers. So far, there have been 3 actors who have played the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston was the ninth Doctor, David Tennant was the tenth Doctor, and Matt Smith was the eleventh Doctor. The Doctor has regenerated again and will be played by Peter Capaldi. It's an amazing show and I recommend it to everyone.

It is a hero's journey of a son trying to find his father in that grief-stricken landscape and the characters stand in for the millions of immigrants, legal and illegal, who contribute in their everyday lives, to the American landscape. The film seeks to counter the narrative that's all-too-prevalent in today's political and media landscape by telling a story set in America's biggest and most diverse city, at its darkest time. The script by playwright and novelist Robert Mailer Anderson (who also produced the film) is wise and completely engaging; he creates indelible characters who are ultimately inspiring and uplifting. Edward James Olmos gives what he considers to be the performance of a lifetime, and the rest of the cast is terrific as well-with a special shout-out to Glynn Turman. The direction, by Olmos's son Michael, is sure-handed, getting terrific performances from his cast, including his father, in this father-son story, and it's beautifully lensed. The music, including jazz and a title track written by Anderson, is pitch-perfect, supporting the story without getting in the way. This film should be seen by everybody-and I'm sure it will be in mainstream distribution soon, as this is a time when, although the major studios may have turned their backs on substance, terrific indie films like this one have many other possible venues. If you can't see it at a film festival, like I did, keep a keen eye out for it. Terrific and inspiring.

WOW Architectural worked closely with the builder to allow construction to move ahead of the traditional sequence by installing a set of steel sub-frames on site that ensured the millimetre-accuracy required for installing steel doors was met. With this process, the wide variety of units including fixed lites, bi-folding, casement and awning windows and a set of highly articulated doors were fabricated to Windows on the World exacting standards. By utilising custom folded steel panels inserted into the base of each unit, bullet hinges on the awning windows and powder-coated peg stays, the units allow for cross ventilation while imparting a sense of solid sophistication. The double powder-coat finish in a subtle grey ensures that the frames at Baby Pizza will retain their robust function for years to come. This was another highly successful collaboration with design firm Projects of Imagination. Residence – Elsternwick The design firm for this residential renovation in the Melbourne inner suburb of Elsternwick was 'Black Milk'. The brief required a narrowline front profile with the ability to hold a double glazed unit. WOW Architectural achieved this using a 50x10 mm solid steel door profile - all on edge. The bespoke design included one very large sliding door, with the track set up into the ceiling cavity, which was very small. JUSTIN CHANG, BYLINE: If you're like me and know nothing about the art of traditional Georgian folk dance, "And Then We Danced" will provide an absorbing introduction. Set in the present day in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, the movie stars a terrific first time actor named Levan Gelbakhiani as Merab, a 20-something junior member of the country's national dance ensemble. In the very first scene, Merab, a lean young man with a broad elfin grin, rehearses with his partner, Mary, and the camera follows their bodies as they move with impressive athleticism through a tightly choreographed routine. The scenes of the two men rehearsing and, at one point, dancing together quickly take on an undeniable erotic charge. Merab and Irakli are forced to carry on their relationship in secret. It's during a weekend getaway with friends that the two have sex for the first time in a secluded area outdoors, away from prying eyes. But Mary is hurt by Merab's neglect, and as she begins to realize what's going on, she feels both understandably betrayed and fearful for Merab's future. Homosexuality is legal, but homophobia is rampant in Georgia, where much of the population is Orthodox Christian. At one point, we hear background gossip about a male dancer who was caught sleeping with another man and sent to a monastery, where he was sexually assaulted by priests. That sad story is one of many that director Akin actually heard while researching his film, which he shot under difficult conditions and with tight security. The fact that the plot involved a gay love story had to be kept secret so as to avoid backlash or protests. For all those challenges, "And Then We Danced" is seamlessly well-made, and its portrait of present-day Tbilisi conveys a striking sense of place. We get an intimate look at Merab's life at home and also at the challenges and limited opportunities that face many working-class youth. Family obligations force Irakli to shuttle between Tbilisi and Batumi, a city hundreds of miles away. Merab divides his time between dancing and working as a restaurant waiter. His parents were once dancers themselves but never managed to do it for a living. Even his ne'er-do-well older brother is a dancer, although he gets drunk every night and often misses practice the next morning. Dance clearly exerts a powerful grip on the culture, and its unyielding standards of masculinity serve as an effective metaphor for a society mired in years of conservative tradition. But the best moments in "And Then We Danced" suggest that dance can also be liberating. There's a wonderful scene when the two young men are alone and a shirtless Merab dances for Irakli while "Honey, " a popular song by the Swedish artist Robyn, fills the soundtrack. It's quite a moment - playful, seductive and quietly subversive. May 18, 2019 3:42AM PT A young dancer tries to make sense of his same-sex desires within Georgian society's oppressively conservative boundaries. In an equitable world, Levan Gelbakhiani, the lead actor in the Tbilisi-set “ And Then We Danced, ” would be thrust to stardom for his extraordinary performance as a dancer who finally acts on his gay desires. But this is far from an equitable world, and though the uneven film is likely to get significant attention on the arthouse scene, it will require several visionaries to realize the international potential of a young Georgian actor-dancer with a gift for captivating the screen. Following its launch in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes, writer-director Levan Akin ’s third feature should easily leap beyond the LGBT ghetto and find love among multiple demographics. But as in Akin’s first film, “Certain People, ” the script here too often slips into cliché, yet the filmmaking skills are frequently exceptional and Gelbakhiani is riveting. Akin goes to great lengths to ensure that audiences unfamiliar with Georgian customs appreciate just how formalized and conservative traditional Georgian dance can be in a country not exactly known for socially liberal leanings. When first seen in the studio, Merab (Gelbakhiani) is berated by instructor Aliko (Gogidze) for not being formulaic enough: His eyes are too playful, his posture too soft. “There is no sex in Georgian dance! ” thunders the brooding ballet master, but just at that moment in walks Irakli (Bachi Valishvili), a new student who immediately captures Merab’s eye. Dance is in Merab’s DNA: His separated parents Teona (Tamar Bukhnikashvili) and Ioseb (Aleko Begalishvili) and grandmother (Marika Gogichaishvili) were all professionals, though their moments in the sun were brief, and his troublemaking brother David (Giorgi Tsereteli) is also at the school, despite lacking the same sense of vocation. Hard-working Merab is drawn to impish Irakli, a rule-breaker who easily raises Aliko’s hackles, and the two are occasionally paired in male duets whose macho nature is subverted by Merab’s feelings of attraction. Upcoming national auditions increase tension, so a break for the troupe at the countryside house of Merab’s dance partner Mary (Ana Javakishvili) is a welcome chance for everyone to let off steam, with the help of alcohol. Late at night, Merab and Irakli find themselves alone, and a shirtless Merab tosses on a woolly white papakha hat as he dances to Robyn’s “Honey, ” with its deliciously provocative line, “Come get your honey. ” It’s an outstanding scene, showcasing Gelbakhiani’s bewitching screen presence and joy-giving dance moves, yet just at the moment when the viewer is eager to let the scene play out to the end of the song, Akin inexplicably cuts away, undermining the build-up. Later, when the two young men finally make love, the act opens up a floodgate of emotions for Merab, who can’t think of anyone else but Irakli. Hovering over his passion is the cautionary story of a former dance school pupil, now an object of ridicule, whose coming out was the start of a fast decline leading to a life of hustling on the streets. That’s what Mary is terrified will happen to Merab as she watches her friend, once a potential boyfriend, open himself up to desires that pit him headlong against the country’s very conservative traditions. Mary (sympathetically played by Javakishvili) is but one of several underwritten characters whose stereotyped function — in her case, as the hesitant but ultimately supportive female friend — cries out for at least a bit more development to avoid the sense that we’ve seen this figure far too many times. David too is a cliché throughout most of the film, his gift for screwing up rather loosely drawn, but then almost at the end, Akin includes a scene between the two brothers of rare emotional depth that highlights even further the dissonance between the expertly conceived moments and their weaker counterparts. The director, born in Sweden to Georgian parents, has stated that he developed his story following numerous interviews with gay Georgians, and while there’s no arguing the truth of the situations, the script needs sharper writing to translate commonalities into a fresher, more trenchant storyline. That said, it’s important to add that for audiences less familiar with the robust back catalog of coming-out stories, “ And Then We Danced ” is certain to touch many receptive chords. This goes beyond the basic truths of the narrative, with its predictable trajectory, and can firmly be ascribed to the film’s exceptional technique and exciting lead actor. Gifted as both a thrilling dancer and a nuanced actor, Gelbakhiani’s magnetic presence goes a long way toward papering over some of the more timeworn plot elements (an injured foot subplot, for example, is especially unnecessary), and the film should make audiences clamor for more vehicles that feature his seemingly effortless ability to radiate joy. Also deserving significant praise is the visual language Akin crafts through his collaboration with cinematographer Lisabi Fridell (“Something Must Break”), whose marvelously fluid camerawork elides with the emotional states of protagonists and audience. For example, during a scene at a party toward the end, the camera glides through the rooms, fixed on Merab in a moment of crisis, and then loses him only to seamlessly find him through a window, one floor below on the street. It’s a masterful shot, quietly bravura without calling attention to itself. Editing is also a strong suit, apart from that frustrating cut during the Robyn song. A young woman in Dongguang, China, lost her vision in her right eye after playing an online mobile game on her smartphone for an entire day. According to Chinese media reports, 21-year-old Xiao Wu (not her real name) was said to have been playing a popular game called King of Glory before she reportedly went blind. The incident happened on their National Day Holiday on Oct 1. She was hospitalised at Donggiang Huaxia Eye Hospital the next day, where doctors diagnosed her with retinal artery occlusion, a painless loss of monocular vision.
